...there was a battle here...
I was thinking it'd be cool if a grid location records when a battle is completed on it, the type of monsters involved and who beat them. It'd be interesting to come across the wreckage of past battles. Perhaps give it a 30% chance to fade away each day that passes, so it lasts about three days on average.

Yeah, that's a possibility... if the battle's close enough to a town you can see the details in the town news (altho you probably already knew that).

PvP is a bit dodge. Both times I have tried it, it ended in exceptions, and then the opportunity was lost. You will never kill anyone in online PvP. You have to catch them in the wild, offline, and even then you will spend hundreds of turns chasing them all over the map while they flee before you can hit them. That is the long and short of it. Curiously, it is easier to wipe someone's party out while you yourself are offline.

I think to an extent PVP can just change occording to the presentation of the game world. I mean, if someone wants PVP with no game world, there's online chess. If you want a game world to play in, it means you want the game world to change how PVP works.
