Good Blacksmiths
It's been weeks since I've seen a blacksmith of over than average skill, and I have a lot of weapons and armor that need smithing.  I don't remember if Mutant frowns upon this or not, but perhaps it would be useful for us to tell one another when we find a good or better smith?

I don't have a problem with it... but you might decide some of that info is too valuable to just give away :)

Re: Good Blacksmiths
This is getting pretty ridiculous - I'm going to go ahead and offer a bounty of 15,000g for the location of a blacksmith of decent skill or better.  The bounty is payable once I've confirmed the blacksmith is in the reported town.  I suggest paying the bounty by using an undefended town a a dead-drop - I'll put 15,000 into the treasury, fire the guards, and the lucky winner will march in, kill a bare-naked low-level mayor and take the loot.  I may even release the location to the community at large; I'm sure there's others out there in need of a good smithy (if your luck is anything like mine...)

Re: Good Blacksmiths
Only 15,000? for information so valuable, which you could use to harm other parties!

Blacksmith are cyclic. Their evolution has a large random element - Mutant only knows if there is any way to influence this. The pattern of good blacksmiths appears to sweep across the board from right to left, though this is probably emergent behavior.

You should concentrate on building money to pay their extortionate fees, and just wait.

I could be tempted by a higher bounty, say, 25600g.

Once I pick up a few casters, I'll take a look at my money and see.

Re: Good Blacksmiths
The location of good blacksmiths, due to their extremely short lifespan in most instances, is possibly the most valuable information in the game. Trading for a town or a handful of gold seems a little... cheap. Put up a few sets of indestructible splint or plate and you might get a bite or two.

Hopefully, this sort of trading will eventually be built into the game.

Re: Good Blacksmiths
Hooray, problem solved - Helmham has a decent blacksmith, which served well enough for now.

EDIT - Ooh, and the best smith I've ever seen isn't far from there!  Glad I took this exploring trip today.

Town of Guardiandell (2,30) has an "amazing" one as of today.
